Talks I Offer - Details

I offer illustrated talks to groups, clubs and any other interested parties. Currently I have three talks available, but it is expected that the list will be added to as time goes by. Each one can be tailored to last between 45 and 90 minutes in duration, depending on your requirements.

Current titles are:

The Little Owls Of Leicestershire – and some that aren’t so little!

I’ve been observing, photographing, and monitoring Little Owls since 2009. This well-illustrated talk describes the lives, trials and tribulations of these delightful birds, and introduces the field craft for finding and observing them, including tips on how to photograph them without disturbance. There will usually be a mid-session diversion into some of the other owls that can be found in VC55 (which includes Rutland!).

Speyside – A Place For All Seasons

Together with my wife (on most occasions), I’ve been visiting Speyside once or twice a year since a first visit in 2010. This talk shows the wonderful wildlife you can expect to find in the region, and where to find it, with the main focus being on birds. It also gives the odd bit of useful support information such as where to stop for a cup of tea, or where to find ‘the facilities’, etc.! A fact sheet on the various locations will be available to take away afterwards, or can be supplied via an email request.

Tales of Damsels and Dragons

Although not claiming to be an expert on dragonflies and damselflies, I have built up a passionate interest in observing and photographing them since 2012. This well-illustrated talk is an introduction to these fabulous creatures, and discusses their life-cycle, where and when to find them, key identification features, etc. This can be delivered featuring a broad geographical base of UK species, or can feature a strong bias towards species local to Leicestershire and the nearby counties.

Scilly Sojourns

Having had my first stay on the Isles of Scilly in 2014, I instantly fell in love with the islands and their wildlife – particularly the birds. Return journeys have strengthened that love! Whilst the archipelago is widely recognised for its avian rarities during migration, it is also well worth a visit outside these times. This well-illustrated talk focuses on what you might expect to see, and where, but will also throw in the odd surprise, and even include a little of the fabulous scenery!

All talks are reviewed to bring them up-to-date and fit the audience’s requirements before delivery.

I'm happy to travel any distance to deliver talks, but I will expect my expenses to be covered!

If you are interested in me giving a talk to your group, please e-mail me at richard@peglermail.co.uk, or call +44 (0)1530 413121 to discuss.
