The run-up to Christmas has been a bit of a difficult time in the Pegler household. Lindsay had a total knee replacement on December 9th. Things didn't go well with the operation - they managed, by mistake, to give her a left-sided femoral component in a right-side knee! She's not done too well since, and had a spell back in hospital on 18th and 19th with suspected DVT, spending nearly 24 hours on a hospital trolley as no bed was available. Fortunately it was found to be cellulitis rather than DVT and she's now home again and being treated for this. She is now able to move from reclining chair in our lounge into a hospital bed that was installed in the lounge yesterday (22nd December), and can also walk around a little with the aid of crutches or a frame.
You can probably understand that, during the past two weeks, I have been a bit pre-occupied with caring for Lindsay, looking after the household duties, and trying to create a semblance of Christmas ambience in the home. This has left me with very little energy (physical and mental) or time to respond to comments on Blogger or create a blog post. We've not even managed to send out any Christmas cards this year! Please, therefore, excuse my lack of responses to your comments. I have read them and do very much appreciate them, but cannot get into the right frame of mind to respond.
I hope that you will forgive me for using a recycled Christmas banner header for this blog. The greetings behind this, however, are fresh.
I hope this will regain an element of normality soon. In the meantime, please take good care of yourselves and Nature - and have a wonderful Christmas.
Richard
We both feel for you two. So many complications. We hope that despite it all, you have a reasonable Christmas. May 2023 be a great year for you in every way. Take care, Diane and Nigel
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane. Our very best wishes to you and Nigel for 2023.
DeleteHello Richard and Lindsay, what can I say, what a mistake they made by misplacing the knee replacement. How are they going to fix that!! Suspected DVT pfffff what fright :( and than 24 hours on a hospital trolly. Terrible. I feel for you both! I can understand you do not feel like answering on comments on your posts at the moment. So please take your time. Do not feel any obligations. All I wish for is that Lindsay will recover without any more complications. The Christmas banner is wonderful!!!!
ReplyDeleteWarm regards from Belgium,
Roos
Greetings, Roos. Thank you for your kind words of support. I am pleased to say that we are now seeing some improvement in Lindsay's situation and we DID manage to have a Christmas!

Hello Richard, so glad to read this good news. That improvement will only continue in the New Year. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas.!
DeleteRegards,
Roos
Thank you!
DeleteWishing you & your family the best despite the problems. Thanks for your wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you - your kind words are much-appreciated. My very best wishes to you for 2023 - - - Richard
DeleteWhat a royal cockup, Richard. It seems hard to believe that they could do that, but when one hears of forceps left behind and other such horrors, anything is possible, I suppose. If you were litigiously inclined you probably have a first class basis for a malpractice lawsuit. Thank goodness the threat of DVT didn't materialize. Please give our best to Lindsay with the hope that things will improve day by day. For you too. Thanks for featuring your Snowy Owl on the header. Miriam and I have been out twice already hunting for them but so far no luck. Merry Christmas - David
ReplyDeleteThank you, David. Christmas turned out somewhat better than we feared, largely due to the efforts of our son and daughter. Lindsay is now visibly making progress and is starting to get some much-needed sleep.
DeleteI am sorry to hear that you have not had any luck with the Snowy Owls yet. Hopefully that will soon improve. I also hope that you, and the owls, do not suffer too much in the reported severe weather that Canada and USA are suffering.
Best wishes to you and Miriam for the forthcoming New Year. Take good care - - - Richard
We have been out searching again and still no luck. None of my birding friends has found one yet so it may be a poor year for snowies in southern Ontario.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear that, David. I hope that your luck, and their luck (birds and friends), changes for the better soon. I know how spirit-lifting a Snowy Owl can be.
DeleteWishing you both the best over Christmas and for a very Happy New Year. Take care.
ReplyDeleteMarc
Thank you, Marc. I'm looking forward to inspirational blog posts from you in 2023. Stay safe - - - Richard
DeleteRichard....A terrible but necessary read in your intro.
ReplyDeleteTo Lindsey and yourself, I wish you....Christmas Peace. With our Kind Regards....Pete and KT.
Thank you, Pete. It seems that we are now on the way up after a couple of difficult weeks.
DeleteMy very best wishes to you and KT for 2023 - - - Richard
Oh no! I hope the recovery is going well now. My husband is now waiting for knee joint surgery. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. Things are now improving. When your husband goes for his knee surgery, make sure that he has a good medical support network for after the operation. We felt that, initially, we did not have an adequate level of support and that Lindsay was discharged from hospital too early as the bed was needed for waiting patients.
DeleteMy best wishes to you for 2023 - - - Richard
DeleteMerry christmas. Your snow owl is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Caroline. I hope that you have happy days ahead of you in 2023. Best wishes - - - Richard
DeleteSeasons greetings Richard. I feel for Lindsey. I am the cellulitis in hospital for three weeks.
ReplyDeleteCellulitis for three weeks sounds painful and dangerous, Bob. It seems to me that you're a born survivor! Have a wonderful 2023 - - - - Richard
DeleteThank you and Lindsay for your kind help, Richard. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you both.
ReplyDeleteTry not to give a thought to blogging until more important matters are sorted! We will all be right here when you are ready.
Here's to many better New Years ahead for us all.
Thank you for your much-appreciated words of support, Wally. Things are getting easier and I'm hoping that the progress continues. I am now starting to find a little more time for myself, and so a new blog post is imminent! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you and Gini in the New Year. Take good care - - - Richard
