I went to Thornton Reservoir in the afternoon to try and find the Redstart that has been there for the past couple of days. It wasn't difficult to find as it had moved to a location a little nearer the path, (although only near enough for record shots with my lens) and several birders were already there. I spent some time here and eventually there were just two of us left. We were busy in conversation, and suddenly noticed that the bird had gone. Much as we tried, we could not pick it up again. It was noticed that the bird had either a growth, or some damage, by its right eye - just visible in the second image - and seemed to be looking with its left eye only.
Redstart (male)
On the way back home, I called at a couple of locations where I had been tipped off about Owls. The first was from a non-birder who could only tell me that he heard owls every night - on investigation, I came to the conclusion that Tawny was most likely. The second site was for Little Owl. I found several possible trees but did not spot any owls - but this Kestrel was waiting for me when I got back to my car!
Stunners,top notch.
