I went to Rutland Water Lyndon Reserve as part of my duties as a volunteer on the Osprey Project. It was a relatively quiet day for birds - even for Ospreys (unusually). However, on checking-in at the Visitor Centre, the nesting Kestrels were active, and a juvenile male Great Spotted Woodpecker was busy at the nut feeder outside. On the way down to the hide there were Small Tortoiseshell butterflies, and Swallows and House Martins on the wires.
